Tonight was the DC Rollergirls Season 9 Home Opener! It simultaneously felt like it was too soon to my second season of roller derby and like it couldn’t come fast enough.
My team, the DC DemonCats played the Majority Whips. I’m so glad we got to play them for our first game of the season because they are a super fun team to play against and such a great way to start off the season.
So many great things to say about this bout though! As a team, we came together and started the season with a win. We have lots of things to work on as the season goes forward, but I think we’re off to a great start. I love my team and I love playing with them and learning from them and I’m excited to see where we go this season. Everyone played hard, our bench staff was amazing,and our new players had some really impressive performances. I mean look at all those beautiful, smiling faces. How could you not love them?
Also! During the halftime of the bout there was a marriage proposal! It was such a great moment because she was so surprised (photo courtesy of DCRollergirls)! I have to admit I was getting a little choked up as it was happening. Seriously, how awesome!
Scandal got voted MVP Jammer and quite frankly she’s just so stinkin’ adorable.
Andrew was such a trooper. He left the house at 6 AM to head to class, spent 8 hours in class, them metro-ed out all the way to Dulles so he could see me play. He’s the best. Afterwards we hit up the after part and I hit up that giant plate of nachos.
It was an exhausting, exhilarating, super fun day. Year of the Cat!
