Santa Barbara Sunset(10/366)

So, I’m on the west coast for work for a day. Yes, a day. But I’m making the most of it.

After work today we headed to the coast to do a little sight-seeing. Driving along the water was gorgeous and I got to stand in the Pacific Ocean for the first time. I then very nearly lost my shoes in the Pacific Ocean, but hey, you take what you can get, right?

We then headed to Solvang, which is this hilarious little Danish town between Lompoc and Santa Barbara. It’s seriously quaint and full of windmills and makes me feel like I either fell into the Hansel and Gretel story or a gingerbread house town (which I suppose is kind of the same thing since the witch lived in a gingerbread house, right?). After a long and desperate search, we managed to find the 1/2 size replica of the Little Mermaid statue that it is in Denmark. Oddly enough, the Little Mermaid statue in Denmark is pretty underwhelming, and the 1/2 size replica in Solvang, CA is perhaps twice as underwhelming. It took us a good 2 minutes to find it while standing directly in front of it. But here it is!

But after our Solvang adventure, we headed down to Santa Barbara. I’ve been to Santa Barbara before and it continues to be a beautiful locale. After walking along the beach and up and down the pier, we took some photographs (see above), and settled in for a relaxing dinner. Now I’m staying up way too late before heading to the airport tomorrow morning way too early.

So, next post from the East Coast! (hey that rhymed!)

  2. I’m glad you made it to Solvang. I want to hear about your trip when you return.

Seriously, the highlight was the donuts. Not the mermaid. Don’t be fooled by all the hype.
