Renaissance Faire

(261/366)

Andrew and I met up with the Abels for some Renaissance Faire fun today. After a late night last night, we got up early at met the Liz, Josh, Aly, Jackson, and Aubrey to watch some jousting, throw some knives, and eat all sorts of weird fair food.

Oh yeah, and we wore costumes.

Right.

I can honestly say I’ve never really had the desire to wear a costume at the Renaissance Faire. Somehow, in the midst of discussing this, going to the Renaissance Faire AND dressing up ended up on our 2012 bucket list. I really wanted to see Andrew dress up, but the only way that was going to happen was if I also dressed up too. I think I got the short end of the stick here. Have you ever worn one of those lace up corset things? I’m pretty sure I didn’t take a good breath for at least four hours. The skirt was quite breezy though.

Chicken and Potato Wedges

Also, the people watching at the Ren Faire is top notch. We spent a lot of time wondering if the people walking around in full costume worked there or were just enthusiastic visitors. It was really hard to tell.

After walking around for a while, trying some snacks, throwing some knives, ninja stars, and axes, watching Aly and Jackson go rock climbing, and deciding it was probably not necessary to buy full size swords and/or our own costumes, we sat down to eat. There is no shortage of food at the Renaissance Faire. In addition to the multiple stands selling pretzels, sweet nuts, pickles, fried ice cream, chocolate covered cheesecake, or Italian ice, there are stands selling pizza, pasta, stew, hot dogs, potstickers, fried pickles, chocolate cake, ice cream sundaes, steak-on-a-stake, and for me, potato wedges, and chicken-on-a-stake. I probably could just spend an entire day at the Renaissance Faire eating all of the random food.

Happy Baby

The last thing we all did together was watch the joust. The joust is probably the most exciting show. I kind of couldn’t tell exactly what was going on during the actual competition, but the team our side of the court was cheering for, won. So, yay! Also, Aubrey is getting so big! Plus, a big dude holding a baby is adorable.

It was a big, fun, exciting day. I will not be repeating this costume wearing during subsequent visits to the Faire, but I guess I’m glad I did it?

Also, Shana Tovah! Happy New Year!
