Anchor Cake121/365

It’s been a while since I made a cake, but now that the ball is rolling, I have a whole bunch more coming up in the next few months.

This request came sort of out of the blue, from our realtor, Rhonda. Now, I’ve never had a realtor before, but from my one experience working one, Rhonda is awesome. While Andrew liked the house buying process a lot more than I did, I think we generally had a good experience, and a lot of that was due to her. Also, she’s just a cool lady. So, if you live in the MD/DC area and you need a realtor, I know a good one.

So, it was a little bit of surprise when a couple of weeks ago she emailed me and asked me to make her a cake for a bridesmaid’s luncheon. It’s not for a lot of people and the luncheon is going to be held at the Naval Academy, so she requested a Navy themed cake. After a little bit of searching, we came up with this simple, yet effective, design.

Anchor Cake

The cake is a vanilla cake with a lemon buttercream icing. I used an anchor template to cut the anchor shape out of fondant. The rope is also twisted fondant that I draped between the gold grommets. It took me a while to actually get started on decorating the cake, but once I did, it didn’t take me too long. I was pleased with the result. I do apologize for the photo quality though. When I went to take pictures my camera battery was dead so I had to use my phone. Effective, but not ideal.

Rhonda told me she expected to see the cake on the blog, so here it is! Thanks for thinking of me and enjoy the wedding weekend!
