Cirque

This afternoon Andrew and I went down to National Harbor to see the latest touring Cirque du Soleil show, Amaluna. I have to admit, for a long time I didn’t know that the Cirque du Soleil shows were constructed around a story. To be even more honest, now that I know that, I still can’t figure out what the stories are about. But who cares? Because Cirque is ridiculous. I literally sat there for the entire first half with my mouth open. The amount of strength, grace, and artistry by the performers is incredible.

This is probably the fourth or fifth Cirque du Soleil show I’ve seen and I never get tired of it. I think my past gymnastics experience always makes me want to get in ridiculous shape so I can do some of those crazy acrobatics and then my past gymnastics experience makes me realize how hard it is to do all those things and quickly I mentally backtrack to being satisfied with still being able to do a backhandspring.

When we first got to the show our seats weren’t too bad except for that pesky pole that blocked all the action right on the front of the stage. During the intermission we asked if we could switch to the section next to us which was more centered and with a bunch of empty rows. They let us move over and we were able to stretch out and get a better view. It was a great show!

This evening, Jen and Evan came over for dinner. It’s been a while since we’ve had them over and it was really good to catch up. I made pineapple fried rice for dinner and the internet told me to serve it in a pineapple bowl, so it was served in a pineapple bowl. Despite having really sticky rice, it was good. We actually ate it all which I think has never happened in the history of me cooking dinner. Now it’s time for bed. I’m pooped. At least it’s a four day week for me!
