Sun In Our Eyes

221/365

This morning seems like ages ago. We woke up and were quickly greeted by our new favorite canine friends, Sadie and Buster. Those dogs are hilarious. Buster ran around like a spaz, but Sadie figured out if she just plopped herself down next to me, she would receive a steady supply of belly rubs and back scratches. What a smart dog. Doggies! Alex was kind enough to get up and drive us a couple miles away where we met Miles and Arden for brunch. Miles used to live with Andrew and is a recent internet hero. Andrew and I had been anticipating this brunch since approximately 11 PM the night before, so we were ready to settle in and get our brunch on. It was totally worth the wait. The food was good, the company was better.  By mid-day it was time for us take the train portion of our planes-trains-and-automobile adventure. The ride from Oakland to Davis isn’t too long, but you travel through lots of California farmland. California Farmland  We saw fields and fields of things being grown, cows grazing, and hay being harvested. It’s funny because I never really think of California as having farmland, but in reality it produces the most food in the US.  The Zinnia Patch Andrew’s grandpa picked us up in Davis and we got the grand tour of the area. We then headed into downtown Woodland for an early dinner (seriously early, we opened the place) before heading to the Zinnia Patch. Zinnias   The Zinnia Patch is two acres of land in Woodland that is just covered in rows and rows of zinnias. Anyone can come and pick some flowers for free. There are vases for the taking and clippers you can borrow to cut the flowers. The only thing the owner of the patch requests is to pay it forward and bring some flowers to a local retirement or caregiving facility. The Zinnia Patch Andrew's Grandpa   We all walked around for a while, selecting our favorite flowers, and just generally enjoying what a unique little place this is. It was totally cool. When we all had armfuls of flowers we dutifully drove over to a local retirement community to drop off a large pile of flowers before heading home. Tomorrow we complete our travel trifecta and head up to Tahoe! Zinnias
