This morning I got up early so Jen could drop me off at the airport before she went to work. Last night there were some pretty gnarly thunderstorms so I was surprised that my flight wasn’t delayed when we headed to the airport. That was short-lived. By the time we got to the airport my flight was delayed an hour. Not so bad. I had to time to get some breakfast and chill out a little before getting on the plane.

As we were lined up waiting to board the plane, the lady behind me commented that she liked my yellow purse. We had a little chit chat where she asked me if I was going back to school (nope, I have a job. Because I’m 30. Who can apparently still pass for 22 though.), what I do (I work at research laboratory), where I went to school (Cornell), what I majored in (mechanical engineering), and then I proceeded to give her my life story and my last four phone numbers. Ok, not so much on the last two. I then learned that she was heading to DC to visit her son and two grandchildren (age 1 month and 21 months), who live in Woodbridge (but used to live in Arlington), and who moved because it was too expensive (compared to Dallas…yes). After our few minute conversation I thought that was the end of it.

But wait, there’s more!

When I went to sit down in my seat I was all ready to settle into the middle seat, when guess who should be sitting in the row with me? Yes, my friend from the boarding line. Since she was with her husband, she asked if I would mind sitting in the window (score! My favorite seat!). She then proceeded to tell me to wipe down my armrests and tray table and gave me one of those wet wipe things because you can never be too careful.

It sounds a little annoying, but it was actually quite nice. She was very friendly and pleasant and it was nice contrast to the lady behind in line as we were getting off the plane who continuously bumped me so I would move a little faster. That was annoying. Welcome back to DC!

On an unrelated note, when I was in Texas I specifically commented to Jen on how cheap the gas was. Most stations were under $3 a gallon and I mentioned I hadn’t seen prices that low in years. Well…today after derby in Maryland:

What is happening?!

Also, this was such an awesome weekend. I have to thank Jen for being an excellent host and I’m so glad we got to hang together for so long. Usually our visits are short and fleeting amongst the craziness of Thanksgiving, but this was great.

But I’m also glad to be home. This week is wedding week. One last cake to go…

  1. Thanks so much for visiting me! It was so nice to spend a whole weekend with you. We haven’t done that in a really long time. I am slowly but surely making my way through the giant bag of kettle corn from the fair!
