Three in a row!! US women have won the Olympic all-around for three straight Olympics. Carly Patterson, Nastia Liukin, and now Gabby Douglas!
I actually knew this by mid-afternoon. After some lunchtime Olympics watching, Elise sent me text updates as the rest of the competition unfolded. So between counting bolts, weighing covers, and meeting Charlie Bolden (the NASA Administrator…that guy is AWESOME), I got minute-by-minute recaps of the routines of Gabby, Aly, Big Russian, Little Russian, and Little Chinese Girl. I have to say, I was pleased with the results.
I really wished Aly Raisman had medaled. She’s from my homestate (go MA!) and her floor music is Hava Nagila – I think I’m obligated to be a fan of hers. Plus, she seems super cool. Even though I knew what happened, as I watched it on TV this evening, I was still nervous during every rotation. The suspense was killing me, even though there was no suspense because I knew what happened. Now all that are left are event finals. I’m really pulling for McKayla Maroney on vault (her vault during team finals was perfect. Amazing. Should be watched over and over. It’s a thing of beauty.) and Aly Raisman on floor. I hope Aly wins floor.

In other news, I finished half of the 9000 piece puzzle I got in June. I’m 4500 pieces in and I’m going to attempt to finish it before we leave. I think I have to pick up the pace a little. I’m going to win a gold medal in jigsaw puzzles. I’m ready for the glory…
